Skills, mentioned earlier, are certainly helpful for career development, but for success in an interview, one must also prepare a strategy. Strategy is the logical plan of action to achieve an objective.
The first thing to consider in forming a strategy is this : The first impression is often the last impression. It is Commonly believed that the first minute of the interview decides the result, because the impression created at the beginning of the interview considerably influences the subsequent outcome. Therefore, the critical factor fora strategic approach should be an making a good beginning.
This needs careful preparation for self presentation, in addition to one's preparation of different skills and answer to probable questions. This entail knowing how to address the interviewers, one body language and eye contact and the ability to handle a wide range of question under intense pressure.
For this strategy ke preparation you have to focus on :
1. Knowing more about the company and its job profile.
2. Examining how your background will suit the company, so that you can present your profile to shuit it requirements.
3. Thinking ahead about the possible questions and their answer.
4. Handling unexpected and awkward questions.
5. Looking your best.
6. Feeling confident by focusing on your strengths to overcome doubts of fear of failure.
7. Polishing your style of communication by rehearsing or by a mock interview.
8. Being present at the interview venue well on time, so that you are relaxed and composed. One should not get disturb or distracted by other candidate present for the interview.
The strategic preparation will give you the opportunity and confidence to apply your skill to the optimum advantage. However the ultimate result come from your ability to apply yourself.
You should always remember that :- It is not enough to plan ; one has to act. It is not enough to act ; one has to think what to act upon. It is not enough to think what to act upon, but also how to act, and then to apply as per plan.
This is the path of preparation. In the ultimate analysis, a prepared mind wins the battle between two equals.
