Types of Interviews. Group Discussion & Personal Interview.

There are mainly two types of face to face interview, ( also called oral interview ). They are the Group Discussion ( GD )  and Personal Interview.

These interviews type serve different purpose. The Group Discussion try to ascertain a candidate's Skills such as Leadership, Team work, Listening ability, Ability to quickly get the core of an issue, and Skills of Articulation and expression.These qualies are not always possible ascertain from the personal interview.

There are two aspect of the Group Discussion :

1. Content, i.e. the subject matter of discussion.

2. Process, i.e. how the subject matter is discussed and presented.

Therefore, The Critical success factor for a group discussion are :

◆ Quality of content i.e. What you say and how do you say it.

◆ Comprehension of Core Ideas.

◆ Logical reasoning and communication skills.

◆ Clarity of thought.

◆ Body language and eye contact during the discussion, and

◆  Display of qualities like teamwork and leadership.

In a Group Discussion, several candidate are asked to discuss a common topics.
The process of discuss bring out the candidates' inter-personal and analytical skills. Interviewers note how the candidate interact with each other, support each Other's views, and Display Team Spirit, Leadership, Logical reasoning and effective Communications. Group discussion are held in Fixed time frame, and the topic is chosen from the wide variety of subject. The candidate must, therefore,  be well read and informed besides being a quick thinker to make a mark in a group discussion.

The Personal Interview tries to ascertain a candidate's Subject Knowledge, Intelligence, Creativity, Learning skill, Attitudinal orientation, Ability to cope with change, and Communication skills.

Therefore, question in the personal interview are deserve, and are to be answered within a short time.
